2015 Siebel Energy Institute Launch Event
On August 4, 2015, the Siebel Energy Institute celebrated its launch and awarded 24 inaugural research grants in San Francisco, California. With more than 100 in attendance, the audience included winning researchers, deans, and professors from the Institute’s member universities; senior members of the media, including CNBC, Forbes, and Bloomberg; and energy company executives and industry influencers from Enel, PG&E, Entergy, PEPCO, EPRI, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Hitachi, Capgemini, McKinsey, and Boston Consulting Group.
The program opened with Tom Siebel, Chairman of the Siebel Energy Institute, discussing the Thomas and Stacey Siebel Foundation and the various programs it supports. Mark Savoff, COO and EVP of Entergy, shared his predictions on the future of the grid, as the guest industry speaker. The Siebel Energy Institute’s Director, College of Engineering Dean Shankar Sastry from UC Berkeley, completed the program by presenting grants to the 24 winning research teams. San Francisco provided a memorable setting, with clear skies and stunning views of the city, bay, and bridges from the 24th floor of the Fairmont Hotel.
